Deborah Carr

British Sauna Society Director & Council Representative

Founder, Aufguss UK & Founder, Anada

Deborah Carr brings extensive experience from the spa and wellness sector, alongside deep practical knowledge of thermal bathing, education, and professional standards. She is the founder of Anada Spa and Wellness, where she has worked for many years raising standards and driving innovation in the UK spa industry.

Through her background in spa and thermal therapies, Deborah encountered the practice of Aufguss and quickly recognised both its therapeutic potential and its cultural significance. Since the pandemic, she has worked tirelessly to introduce and establish Aufguss in the UK, not only as a compelling ritual experience, but as a disciplined health and wellness practice.

Through Anada, Deborah delivers professional training programmes and has trained many of the UK’s emerging sauna masters, helping to seed a new generation of practitioners with strong foundations in technique, wellbeing, and responsibility. Her work has been instrumental in shaping the professional landscape of UK sauna practice.

Within the British Sauna Society, Deborah leads on Aufguss and competitive sauna, playing a central role in the development of the UK Aufguss Championships and the introduction of international competitive formats such as Modern Classic. She has also supported the UK’s participation in the Herbal Cup, helping to connect British practitioners into the wider global sauna community and to honour the broad range of bathing cultures influencing British sauna.

A trained educator with a strong grasp of governance and professional standards, Deborah brings particular rigour to questions of training recognition, health and safety, and sector development. She is deeply committed to ensuring that as the sauna master profession grows, it does so with clarity, credibility, and care, supported by recognised training pathways, clear standards, and robust best practice.

Deborah joined the Board of the British Sauna Society to help build the structures, standards, and educational frameworks needed to support a flourishing, professional, and internationally respected UK sauna culture.
