Fleur Shorthouse Hemmings

British Sauna Society Council Representative

Sauna Storyteller, Sauna Master

Fleur has been telling stories in saunas since 2018. She pioneered the unique art form of sauna storytelling; blending traditional oral storytelling with sauna master practice to create meaningful, multi-sensory experiences. As artist-in-residence at Wowo Wild Spa, Fleur developed her sauna theory and practice, led philosophical sauna sessions, and now co-leads a sauna practitioner group with fellow council member Katie Bracher. She also hosts Steamy Bluebells, a popular monthly Family Bath session. She tells on Saturdays at Stanmer Sauna Garden, where she has intensively honed her craft. Appearing at Flow Fest (WildSpa Wowo), Saunaverse (Hackney Wick Community Sauna Baths), and other events across the UK, her tours in Scotland and Dorset have opened new routes for sauna artists. Most recently, she has begun regular sessions with &Soul Sanctuary, a wellness and contrast therapy centre in Shoreditch. Head of Philosophy at Varndean 6th Form College and A director of Story Commons CIC, Fleur is committed to promoting storytelling to foster community, address contemporary issues, and deepen connections with nature. Her work aligns with the British Sauna Society’s vision of sauna as an inclusive and enriching space. She is ever grateful to tradition bearer Shonaleigh Cumbers and Bath Master Birutė Masiliauskienė, for their ongoing teaching and practical wisdom; Bella Kirkus and Katie Bracher for their vision, guidance and generosity. She aims to support the Society’s growth, advocate for sauna practitioners, and ensure the arts remain vibrant and inspiring in British Sauna Culture.
